How An Ideal Teacher Tackles Individual Difference In The Class Room .

Abstract

Individual difference stands for the variation or deviations among individuals in regard to a single characteristic or number of charectristics . It's stands for those differences which in their totality distinguish one individual from another . Here comes the role of teacher to cater  difference in her class inorder to mend the flows of each child to grow and brought -up in their own way.

INTRODUCTION

We can say that individual differences among humans that distinguish or separate them from one another and makes one as a single unique individual . Heredity , environment, influence of caste,race and nature,sex difference,Age and IQ, Temperament and emotional stability , economic conditions and education etc.,are the main factor which influence individual difference. Characteristics that define individual difference can be classified into four main categories . Learning style, aptitude ,personality and emotional intelligence.
                   The Oxford Dictionary of Sports sciences and medicine derived individual difference theory as a theory of mass communication that proposes that individual respond differently to the mass media according to their psychological needs, and that individuals consume the mass media to satisfy those needs. The need may be for information, interpretive,effective, or escapist compared  categories theory.
                                              The principle of individual difference is a principle which states that , because everyone is unique, each person experience a different response to an exercise program.  Some of these differences related to body size and shape, genetics, past experience, chronic conditions ,  injuries and  gender.
                                               In1905 ,Alfred  Binnet gave the concept of  mental age  (MA),which refers to an individual's level of mental development  relative to the environment in which s/he lives. The term intelligence quotient was first deviced by William Stern ,a German psychologist, in 1921.
         Individual  difference coined with the term individual diversity, it's an important  concept in organizational behaviour. People can be described by a number of categories that are both inherent and acquired.

Is there a need to know individual difference in this worldof equality?

                     If we observe around  us we can come across a multitude of different personalities and behaviors. An individual's personality doesn't just affect the individual, but everyone around them .
                 Organization consist of people who work together.  Differences between individuals based on personality traits , May be an incentive for the development of creativity and a source of conflicts and other problems existing in the organization . Managers need to be able to measure personalities in order to make useful  hiring  decisions and they can do this by  giving personality  test and evaluating the results.
                           This article covers information about the individual difference and behaviour  at work. Also will give examples of method to measure of personality and theories.
                   The two main attributes of the individual difference : Ability and Personality ( C.Cooper,2002) .Ability is one of the traits that distinguish one person from another. They are found in the speed,depth and strength of mastery of methods and techniques of some activities and are internal mental regulators  (C.Cooper,2002) personality stable system of philosophical, psychological and behavioural symptoms , personal feelings, thinks,behave  that characterize the person  (C.Cooper, 2002).
                          According to the information above, people differ from each other is obvious. Each person is different from any other their individual psychological peculiarity. The identity of each person is endowed with a combination of psychological characteristics of people that make us it's identity, it's difference from  other people. Individuality manifested in the character traits, Temperament, habits,  the prevailing interest as cognitive processes, abilities individual style of activity.
                    Studying individualdifferences is especially important ability for leaders and managers, enabling them to understand themselves. It helps effectively promote functions and well being  among employees, because how employees will participate at workwill depend on the production, reputation, quality of company or organization where person is working.

Causes of Individual difference:

1.) Heredity: One  of the most significant  and chief causes of ID is heridity. Individuals Inherit various physical traits like face with its features, colour of eye and hair ,type of skin ,shape of skull and size of hands , etc.,

2.) Environment : It significally influences ID. Changes in child's environment are reflected in the changes in his personality.  Psychologically speaking, a person's environment  consists of sum total of stimulation  which he receives from conception until his death.

3.) Influence of caste, race  and nation:
Individuals of different caste and race exhibit very marked differences .It's generally seen that son of a Kshatriya has a more of courage in him while the son of a trader has the traits of business.
Similarly  Individuals  of different  nations show difference in respect of their personality, character  and mental abilities.

4.) Sex differences: Development of boys and girls exhibitsdifferences due to difference in sex. The physical development of the girl takes place a year or two earlier than the boys . Between  The age of 11 and 14 girls are taller and heavier than the boys . After 15 ,boys stay winning the race.

5.)  Age and intelligence: Physical, intellectual and emotional development is caused by the growth  in age.  Many individuals differ because of the difference in intelligence.  Individuals who are below the average in intelligence.  Individuals who are below the average in intelligence and mental age find much difficulty in learning and the average intelligent persons can  learn quickly.

6.) Temperament and emotional stability : Some people are quick,while others are passive and slow, some humorous and others short tempered . Emotional stability of the individual is differently affected by physical  ,mental and  environmental factors.  Differences in emotional  stability  cause individual  Differences.

7.) Other causes : Interests,aptitudes, achievements,character, educational and home  background  lead to individual differences.

8.) Economic condition and education :
ID are caused by economic condition of the parents and the education of the children.  It's not possible for the children of two economic classes to have a similarly  and equality.

How a teacher can interfere to cater individual difference?

It's very important for a teacher to know the variables such as charectristics, intelligence, perception, gender, ability, learning style, which are individual differences of the learners. An effective and productive learning-teaching process can be planned by considering these individual differences of the students.  Since the learners own learning speeds and interests vary ,these charectristics should be taken into consideration by the teacher.  An artist studies the difference in his canvas infront of him then only he apply his art on it. In some way every teacher should study and understand each child infront of him/her and choose all the things needed for learning  and teaching.  The following  are some suggestion to cater individual difference.

# The students should be provided with suitable assistance and guidance in accordance with their abilities and learning needs ,so that they can develop their potential to the full .
# Though curriculum and syllabus are unique and similar for a particular course of study ,a teacher can manipulate it to see to the individual's need and necessity
#To address the needs of students, teachers should provide them with a variety of learning oppertunities for effective  learning, such as using diversified resources rather than  giving only on textbooks and making use of a spectrum of intelligences and multi -sensory experiences to tap the  different pottential  of students

CONCLUSION

In sum student diververty is a natural phenomenon in student learning. Instead of taking it problematic, we view it as a valuable resource for promotingeffective learning and teaching.
